  Modern Electronic Services Applied in King Faisal University – Information Technology Center

1) Students & Teaching Staff Information System (Banner)

This system serves several circles in the university; Deanship of Admission & Registration, Applied Studies & Society Service and Information Technology Center through a developed technical meeting the officials ambition towards facilitating and simplifying the procedures required to the students and teaching staff and related circles.\the Banner System includes two main systems working efficiently.

1)    Students Information System:

The system covers all aspects  related with students aiming to get many services through the internet  whether from house or computer laboratories in the internet. Services that students can get includes and not limited to:

1)     Registration

2)     Omitting and addition

3)     Getting registration notification

4)     Final result

5)     Getting the academic transcript (Informal)

6)     Printing the study timetable

7)     Modifying the personal information (address- phone numbers- mail- etc)

8)     Communicating with courses professors through the electronic mail.

9)     Following bonuses and tuition fees (students of college of applied studies)

In addition to many other services that will be activated in the soon future.

B) Teaching Staff Information System

This system enables the teaching staff to  get many services through the internet such as:

1)     Getting lists of registered students in courses and branches.

2)     Entering semester and final marks

3)     Modifying personal information (address- phone numbers  etc)

4)     Entering and presenting office hours.

5)     Printing the detailed timetable.

6)     Printing the weekly timetable

7)     Teaching tasks

8)     Entering information about curricula and  courses

9)     Communication with students through the electronic mail.

10)      Electronic Teaching.

In addition to many other services that will be activated in the soon future.

2) Remote Learning & Electronic

The system saves great opportunity t students to communicate with the course as well as the professor out the lectures hall. The system provides variety of tools to acknowledge on the content of courses and react with them easily and attractively. In addition, it helps registered students to communicate with courses professors in several electronic methods through the internet.

The system is distinguished with facility of usage whether for professor and student. The system also contains the most important educational media. Consequently, the system is considered on of the most significant system used all over the world.

3) Video Conferencing System

The audio and visual system provides the possibility f transferring sound and pictures from allocation to another whether inside or outside the university (any place in the world). Nowadays, the uses the computer network to broadcast and transfer lectures, forums and conferences in the  headquarters in Al Ehsa or Dammam Branch or in the in Al Khobar. The system is used to hold meetings between officials and administrative and their correspondents in the university branches saving time and effort without transportation exhaustion.

4) Electronic Connection Network of Girls' Colleges and Teachers two colleges in the Eastern Region:

The university established a giant electronic network to connect the headquarters with the spread colleges in cities and governorates of the eastern region. This system uses IP-VPN technique -advanced technique in which data in huge amounts and high speeds are transferred- enabling the university to use the network in several fields such as video conference technique in broadcasting lectures and hold meetings between a city and another easily without transportation trouble. This network facilitates entering the university colleges in the internet, electronic mail, admission & registration system Banner as well as other services and applications. The network connect the university with the following branches:

Al Ehsa, Dammam, Katif, Jubail, Alnaira, Alkhafaji, Hafr Albatin

5) Wireless Networks

Information Technology Center operates a  giant wireless network spread in most buildings and colleges of the university connecting directly with the chief network in the university aiming to save the chance to for all the university employees to make use of all presented services such as the internet, electronic mail, and other applications through the lab tops or PDI or mobiles.

6) Electronic Mail:

A service presented by Information Technology Center for all the university employees; students, teaching staff members and employees aiming to communicate and exchange information between them and outer world through rapid and developed manner.

7) Smart Classrooms:

Nowadays, using reactive classrooms (smart) in education process is considered one of the main ideas. In the development context, King Faisal university has established recently smart classrooms to save providing modern educational techniques that required by both teacher and students such as:

Audio-visual systems.

Smart boards

Electronic system to show documents (Data Show)

Video conference

8) Mobile Short Message Service (SMS)

The administrates SMS services helping to a great extent to enhance the communication between the university employees; male and female students, teaching staff members in order to transfer important news such as dates of registration, bonuses, advertising the university activities like lectures and meetings etc…as well as other activities.

9) Computer Labs

Aiming to develop the academic process and due to the university care of providing the technical possibilities that help our students and teaching staff members, the university supplies all the university colleges with developed computer labs connected to the university network and the internet. The from time to time updates the computers in the university computer labs.

The university site is considered the main "Gate" of supplying visitor with a lot of information and news about the university. The site also offers a variety of services for the university members; students, teaching staff ad officials. There are many electronic services can be get through the site such as the admission results, omitting and addition processes, courses results etc….. In addition, the university members can get a look on their e-mails or use the electronic learning system and performing other academic administrative tasks.

The university site includes a distinguished forum limited with students. This forum represents a connecting circle between the officials in the university administration and the students and teaching staff trough listening to the students' points of view and receiving their suggestions and notes about all relating with the university and supplied services. In addition, the forum is considered an important gate to get assistance, direction and exchanging experiences between teaching staff and students who participate a calm debate in all fields. The forum is considered a distinguished place for students to show their problems and participations in several aspects such as literature, poetry, sports, medicine, engineering, computer design, etc..   Really, it is a unique technique because it is managed by joint supervising team  from students and information technology center ensuring students gaining experience ,sharpening talent and participating in holding responsibility efficiently which will benefit them undoubtedly in the future.

13) Financial & Administrative Affairs System (Oracle ERP)

A developed electronic system provides several services for all members in the field of financial and administrative affairs such as personnel affairs, financial accounting, purchasing, stocks & store rooms administration, maintenance and support and other services that are supplied through the internet.

14)Technical Support:  Remedy

provides the maintenance services for the computer sets in all the university colleges, deanships, and administrations. The center maintains the computer sets, screens, printers and other electronic sets providing spare parts and cartridges and other basic requirements in the field. The information technology center uses in the technical support center the best international systems; Remedy that provides support for all members electronically through the university site.
