Civil Engineering Program

Head of Civil Engineering Program Word

Welcome to the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at King Faisal University located in Al-Ahsa Governorate, which was established in 1430 AH (2009 AD), the department currently offers a Bachelor of Science (BS) program in Civil Engineering, which is accredited by ABET. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is committed to maintaining national and international standards in education, ensuring that its programs remain competitive and relevant to the global engineering landscape. Furthermore, our department offers a wide range of specializations including structural engineering, construction management, transportation engineering, geotechnical engineering, and water resources and environmental engineering. These programs are designed to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to excel in the field of engineering. In addition, the department is preparing to launch an undergraduate program in Environmental Engineering to meet the needs of the labor market. In line with its commitment to academic excellence, the department also aims to launch graduate programs, including Master of Science (MS) and Master of Engineering (MEng.), to enhance expertise in the departments' fields.

The department's faculty is composed of highly qualified professionals from prestigious universities worldwide, each bringing a wealth of knowledge, experience, and global perspectives to the classroom, which enables them to share cutting-edge research and innovative practices with their students. This diversity enriches the learning environment and allows students to benefit from a wide range of engineering methodologies and insights. The department focuses on providing high-quality education, utilizing state-of-the-art facilities, modern technology, and well-equipped laboratories to enhance both teaching and research. These resources allow students to gain practical experience and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that essential for their professional success.

The main objective of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department is to prepare its students for the challenges of the labor force. By promoting a lifelong learning, the department helps students not only succeed in their initial professional roles but also adapt to future changes in the engineering field. This focus on continuous learning is complemented by the department's dedication to supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The department aims to train qualified and well-educated engineers who will play a pivotal role in the Kingdom's infrastructure development, contributing to the construction, improvement, and sustainability of urban environments. In addition, the department is actively engaged in annual student initiatives to promote environmental sustainability, aligning with global efforts to create greener, more sustainable communities.

About the Program

Mission:

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering strives for providing quality services through close partnership with the community by demonstrating commitment to:

Quality education that prepares graduates through project-based learning with broad engineering knowledge to be professionals.

Pursue graduate studies and quality research that leads to better solutions to engineering-related problems with emphasis on issues of national significance by working closely with industry and research centers.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Within a few years of graduation, Civil Engineering graduates are expected to attain the following program educational objectives:

  • PEO 1 : Become technically competent engineers for dynamic and successful careers in the civil and environmental engineering professions.
  • PEO 2 :Pursue graduate studies and innovative research to solve civil and environmental engineering problems.
  • PEO 3 : Demonstrate leadership and teamwork skills and contribute to the community-based sustainable development.
  • PEO 4 : Engage in life-long learning for continuous improvement and professional development.
Student Outcomes (SOs):

These are the same outcomes as articulated by ABET and are listed below:

  • Ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  • Ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  • Ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
  • Ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
  • Ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
  • Ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.

Interaction with companies and industrial sectors

Right from the start, the College of Engineering at King Faisal University has chosen to involve its stakeholders in decision making. The College has arranged numerous meetings and workshops with industry representatives and community leaders. The College believes that representatives feedback and input is a valuable source for building and sustaining success and competitiveness in our graduates and thus is keen to maintain continuous contacts with them. To establish for an institutionalized mechanism of interaction with the industry, the CE program has a list of representatives who enjoy sufficient experiences to provide advice to the program faculty and staff on various aspects including academic issues, cooperative efforts with industry, and strategic planning. They also have the capacity to bring to the program the latest concerns and challenges facing industry to assist and guide the program in preparing graduates for their future careers.
