Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at King Faisal University, established in 1430 AH (2009 AD). It is currently one of the leading and largest departments within the college in terms of student and faculty numbers. The department offers a Bachelor's program in Mechanical Engineering, accredited internationally by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Our program focuses on equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle future challenges. The department covers a wide range of specializations, including Thermal Systems, Solid Mechanics, Materials Science, Engineering Design and Simulation, Mechatronics, Robotics, Smart Mechanical Systems, Machine Design, and Manufacturing. To further enhance our role in developing engineering capabilities, we launched the Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering in Fall 2023, designed to prepare highly skilled graduates who contribute to the advancement of local and international industries.

The department values its distinguished faculty members, who hold prestigious academic qualifications from leading universities worldwide. The department remains committed to preparing engineers who can support the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s goals, particularly in alignment with Vision 2030. Our faculty members conduct research that addresses critical issues and reflects the university's focus on areas such as food security and environmental sustainability, enhancing the university’s reputation both locally and internationally.

About the Program

Mission:

The Mechanical Engineering program strives for providing quality services through close partnership with the community by demonstrating commitment to -quality education that prepares graduates through a project-based learning with broad basic engineering knowledge to be professionals and to pursue postgraduate studies and research.

-quality research that leads to better solutions to mechanical engineering-related problems with emphasis on issues of national significance by working closely with industry and research centres.

Vision:

Providing graduates who are distinctively skilful for market needs, self-learning oriented, able to conduct scientific research, creative and competitive.

Revised Program Education Objectives

  • PEO 1 : Become technically competent engineers for a successful and productive career in the mechanical engineering profession.
  • PEO 2 : Pursue graduate studies, research and design in mechanical engineering.
  • PEO 3 : Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork skills in a diverse environment with an integrative perspective to solving mechanical engineering problems.
  • PEO 4 : Engage in life-long learning for the purpose of continuous improvement.
Student Outcomes (SOs):

These are the same outcomes as articulated by ABET and are listed below:

  • Ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  • Ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  • Ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
  • Ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
  • Ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.

Right from the start, the College of Engineering at King Faisal University has chosen to involve its stakeholders in decision making. The College has arranged numerous meetings and workshops with industry representatives and community leaders. The College believes that representatives feedback and input is a valuable source for building and sustaining success and competitiveness in our graduates and thus is keen to maintain continuous contacts with them. To establish for an institutionalized mechanism of interaction with the industry, the ME program has a list of representatives who enjoy sufficient experiences to provide advice to the program faculty and staff on various aspects including academic issues, cooperative efforts with industry, and strategic planning. They also have the capacity to bring to the program the latest concerns and challenges facing industry to assist and guide the program in preparing graduates for their future careers.
