Introduction
Department of Surgery is one of the largest and the most active departments in the College. It trains the students to understand the pathophysiology of surgical diseases, clinically assess and formulate management strategies. The Department uses didactic lectures, bed side teaching, problem based scenarios, demonstrations and simulation laboratory teaching to achieve its objectives. The Department has established in a short time a State of Art Medical Simulation Laboratory that is extensively used in the training of undergraduate courses. In addition to developing excellence in teaching, students and Faculty are encouraged perform basic and applied research. Medical students have presented papers in conferences that have won awards. Several faculty are also in the process of writing scholarly books on the subjects of their specialty. In Addition, the Department also conducts several courses and workshops for the Surgical Residents and Junior Surgeons.
