The establishment of the Deanship of E-learning and Information Technology (DELIT) at King Faisal University represented an important step toward keeping pace with technological advancements in education. It built upon the University’s significant progress in this field and its continued commitment to development and to embracing emerging trends in higher education. Through the establishment of DELIT, the University sought to bring about a qualitative transformation in higher education at King Faisal University, moving from conventional teaching approaches toward a modern university environment characterized by excellence in teaching methods, effective integration of technology into education, and high standards of quality. This transformation supports the University’s commitment to continuous development and modernization in a manner that reflects its status and longstanding history. The establishment of DELIT also contributes to enhancing and advancing the educational process at the University using strategies and methods supported by modern technologies. These approaches enable students whose circumstances prevent them from attending the University through conventional on-campus study to pursue their education at King Faisal University through distance learning. Furthermore, in response to the growing number of secondary school graduates and increasing demand for university education, E-learning and distance education help expand the University’s admission capacity within the resources and capabilities available.
DELIT is responsible for all matters related to E-learning and distance education at the University. Its responsibilities include providing digital learning resources and internationally recognized E-learning systems, delivering the necessary training on such systems, and managing and overseeing comprehensive technical support for distance education programs. DELIT also develops and implements synchronous interactive learning systems that enable direct interaction between students and their instructors, provides software for the preparation and development of digital learning materials, and deploys advanced systems for recording lectures and their associated activities. Recorded lectures are made available to students online, allowing them to access and review educational content anytime and anywhere. Through these efforts, the Deanship continues to advance toward an integrated E-learning environment that effectively serves the University’s students.

Comprehensive and integrated human development is essential because of its direct impact on economic and social development. Accordingly, adequate investment must be directed toward the continued development of all dimensions of education. E-learning programs have become a priority for many universities and educational institutions, reflecting the growing importance of integrating technology into the educational process, whether through distance education or through incorporating technological dimensions into conventional education.

The Deanship of E-learning and Information Technology provides a distinctive model for distance education characterized by comprehensiveness and high efficiency and aligned with educational, technological, and institutional standards in the field of E-learning. Through an integrated electronic ecosystem, the Deanship provides students with a comprehensive range of academic and educational activities and services, including admission and registration services, student affairs services, student monitoring and performance evaluation, and data required to support decision-making, among other services. This integrated digital environment is designed to replicate the University’s conventional educational ecosystem and its various activities and functions electronically.
Faculty members conduct lectures, meetings, and office hours using synchronous learning systems that enable direct interaction between students and instructors. Course instructors record lectures and their associated activities electronically, organize and classify them as digital course content, and integrate them into the Learning Management System. Then, students can access and review these lectures at any time. For coursework and class activities, faculty members provide assignments, discussion questions, and quizzes through the Learning Management System. The student performance monitoring systems generate reports that support the evaluation of educational quality and track students’ performance across various course activities. Faculty members can also meet with students directly online, present educational content through audio and video, receive and respond to students’ questions, and conduct electronically the various forms of interaction and classroom activities traditionally associated with face-to-face learning.
Enhanced Affiliation Education is a university study system through which students are awarded a bachelor’s degree in one of the available specializations upon successfully completing all graduation requirements. The system utilizes modern technologies to address the limitations of the traditional affiliation model by employing internationally recognized systems specialized in E-learning and distance education and relying extensively on information and communication technologies. This enhanced educational model also utilizes virtual interactive learning systems that enable direct interaction between students and their instructors, software for preparing and developing electronic learning materials, and advanced systems for recording lectures and all associated activities. These recordings are made available to students online, enabling them to access and review the content anytime and anywhere.
Blended Learning refers to the integration of communication technologies and information technology into the delivery and support of the educational process.
