Preparatory Year Program

*Is the student allowed to excuse himself from studying during the preparatory year program?
Yes, a student is allowed to postpone or excuse himself from one academic quarter during the duration of the study as a maximum, in the event of extreme necessity, and with an excuse accepted by the Preparatory Year Deanship Council, provided that the application is submitted electronically through the university’s Banner system before the beginning of the semester to request postponement, and before the end of the week. The fourth from the beginning of the academic quarter to request an apology. The period of postponement or apology is counted within the period necessary to complete the program requirements, which does not exceed four academic quarters for colleges: (Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Applied Medical Sciences) and does not exceed five academic quarters for colleges: (Engineering, Computer Sciences). *Is a student allowed to withdraw from a course during the preparatory year program?
Yes, the student may withdraw from any of the Preparatory Year Program courses; With an excuse accepted by the Council of the Deanship of the Preparatory Year, provided that the remaining contact hours are not less than four hours, and to submit a withdrawal request electronically through the Deanship of the Preparatory Year portal before the end of the fourth week from the beginning of the academic quarter, with the need to continue attending lectures until the withdrawal request is finally approved.
*When is the last date to apologize for a semester or withdraw from a course?
The student is allowed to submit a request to withdraw from a semester or withdraw from a course electronically before the end of the fourth week from the beginning of the semester.
*How do I get my class schedule?
The student can view his academic schedule through his account on the Deanship of the Preparatory Year portal at the beginning of each academic quarter, which contains the registered courses, lecture times, and halls. The student must register these courses in the university’s banner system, starting in the second academic quarter.
*What happens if I do not register courses in the university’s banner system?
If the student does not register the courses in the university’s banner system according to his study schedule announced in his account on the Deanship of the Preparatory Year portal, he will not be allowed to enter lectures or take tests and will be considered not registered in the course, and this may result in him being considered a dropout from studying.
*Is it possible to transfer from one department to another after registering or changing the academic schedule?
It is not possible to transfer from one department to another or change the academic schedule.
*Is it possible to change the major while studying in the preparatory year program?
A student cannot change his major during his studies in the preparatory year program, but struggling students can transfer according to the regulations governing study in the preparatory year program, and after coordination with the Deanship of Admission and Registration.
*What do I do if there is a conflict in the academic schedule or a course is not registered?
If there is a conflict in the academic schedule or a student has not registered for a course, he must submit an inquiry to the Student Services Support Office through the preparatory year portal or by visiting the office (Office No. 3004 for male students and Office No. 1009 for female students)
*What happens if I pass all the courses but do not get the required grade, or get the required grade but do not pass all the courses?
The student is not considered to have passed the Deanship of the Preparatory Year program until he passes all the courses and obtains the required average according to the college to which he obtained initial acceptance.
*What is the percentage of absence after which a student is deprived of taking the final exam for the preparatory year courses?
If the absence rate exceeds 10% without an excuse, the student will be deprived of taking the test, and the Preparatory Year Deanship Council can lift the deprivation of the student, provided that the student provides an excuse that is acceptable to the Council, and the absence rate does not exceed 30%.
*What are acceptable excuses for absence?
Acceptable excuses for absence are compelling excuses that prevent the student from attending lectures or exams, provided that the student submits the necessary reports and documents:

A medical excuse from the university’s medical clinic complex or excuses approved by the Sihaty platform.
Admitting the student to the hospital.
Birth.
car accident.
Suspending the student or detaining him with the competent authorities.
Death of a first-degree relative.
An appointment in one of the government departments.
The student’s participation in university events and activities after obtaining prior approval to participate.
Other compelling excuses similar to the above.
*To whom should excuses for absence be submitted at the Deanship of the Preparatory Year?
Excuses can be submitted electronically through the Deanship of the Preparatory Year portal.
*When is the last time to submit an excuse for absence?
The student can submit an excuse for absence, provided that the date of absence has not been more than a week.
*Is there a special calendar for the Deanship of the Preparatory Year?
Yes; It can be viewed on the website of the Deanship of the Preparatory Year (the “Academic Calendar” icon).
*What is the method to obtain the password for the Deanship of the Preparatory Year portal?
An email is sent at the beginning of the academic year containing the user name and password, and the student must change the password after receiving it.
