Established in November 2003 (Ramadan 1424).

The department has a vision of being a model in health care, medical education, research and community engagement

The department has units covering specialties like – Cardiology, Respiratory medicine, Gastroenterology, Infectious diseases, Endocrinology, Diabetes, Nephrology, Rheumatology and Dermatology.

As part of the integrated curriculum, the faculty of the internal medicine department are involved in teaching activities for all years of the MBBS course, including specific electives.

The members of the department are involved in direct patient care at both the University polyclinic and hospitals under ministry of health, Al Ahsa.

The department is actively involved in quality research and community engagement programs. Members of the department participate regularly in prestigious conferences and scientific meetings as experts.
