Graduate Programs in English Language

 

The Department of English Language at King Faisal University offers two comprehensive Master's programs: the M.A. in Applied Linguistics (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and the M.A. in English Language and Linguistics. Both programs aim to foster a deep understanding of the English language, while addressing the specific needs of the Saudi context.

The M.A. in Applied Linguistics is designed for students seeking advanced training in the teaching of English as a foreign language. It equips graduates with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to design curricula, assess language proficiency, and conduct research in language education.

The M.A. in English Language and Linguistics provides a broader exploration of the English language, focusing on theoretical and applied linguistic studies. This program prepares students to become scholars and professionals in fields such as translation, forensic linguistics, language planning, and more, emphasizing research relevant to the Saudi context.

M.A. in Applied Linguistics (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)

Program Overview:

The M.A. in Applied Linguistics at King Faisal University focuses on preparing students to excel in the field of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). The program emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in areas such as syllabus design, language assessment, and language planning, with particular attention to the Saudi Arabian context. The curriculum is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of Applied Linguistics, alongside opportunities for students to engage in teaching and research.

 ​Vision:

To contribute to the development of localized standards and applications in various areas of Applied Linguistics, specifically within the field of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).

Mission:

The Department of English Language is committed to preparing experts in the fields of Applied Linguistics, including English language teaching and learning, syllabus design, material production, language assessment, and language planning, all tailored to the needs of the Saudi context.

Objectives:

The M.A. program aims to:

            •           Provide a solid foundation in Applied Linguistics, with a focus on TEFL.

            •           Foster an understanding of the social and cultural dimensions of foreign language teaching, particularly in Arabic-speaking environments.

            •           Equip students with the knowledge and skills to:

            1.         Teach and supervise EFL programs.

            2.         Design curricula suitable for local contexts.

            3.         Evaluate and adapt teaching materials.

            4.         Conduct academic research in Applied Linguistics.

Graduates of this program are well-prepared to contribute to the field of TEFL in both academic and professional settings.

 

M.A. in English Langu​age and Linguistics

 

Program Overview:

The M.A. in English Language and Linguistics is designed to produce highly qualified scholars and researchers in the fields of English language and linguistics. The program emphasizes both theoretical advances and linguistic applications, with a focus on issues related to English in the local Saudi Arabian context. The M.A. program seeks to:

            •           Provide students with advanced knowledge of various theories and branches of English language and linguistics.

            •           Equip students to address applied linguistic studies, including corpus linguistics, forensic linguistics, language planning, and translation.

            •           Prepare graduates for research addressing locally relevant issues in English language and linguistics.
