About the department:

The Biology Department was established as one of the major academic departments in the Faculty of Education which was established in 1400 H, and since that time, the Department is working on the graduation of students oriented mainly to work in the education sector as teachers in the secondary schools, and started to working for accepting the female students in the Biology Department with effective from the academic year 1420 H. And by the beginning of the academic year 1423/1424 H, when it is determined to adjoin the departments of basic sciences to be the nucleus of the Faculty of Science. The department works on changing its scheme to be compatible with the new situations annexed to the establishment of Faculty of Science. 

The Department aims at qualifying the students of both sexes in the field of biology in both of its branches zoology and botany, helping to perform the students’ national duty in many areas such as working in the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Agriculture or the National Commission for Wildlife Conservation. The student obtains a Bachelor's degree in biology after completing 128 credit hours according to the general scheme of the University.

The Department of Biology has the elite members of the faculty in the different disciplines of biology. In addition to four assistant professors of both sexes which all are Saudis who are completing their postgraduate studies as scholarship students or in the scholarship process to complete their postgraduate studies. It also involves three of the qualified technical cadres, which supervise the preparation and operation of the scientific laboratories. Currently the Department also has four scientific laboratories, two of which are prepared for male students and two for female students.
