College Objectives
Clinical Pharmacy is a distinct discipline with its own body of knowledge and its own practices. To fulfill its mission, the College of Pharmacy is designed to achieve the following institutional objectives:
1. Construct a comprehensive and dynamic curriculum which prepares the graduate to function as a member of a health professional team or provide service in a community pharmacy.
2. Train professionals to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills and attitudes to become competent Clinical Pharmacists of international standards.
3. Prepare students to cultivate the habit of continuous self learning that will enable them to meet the challenges of future development in Clinical Pharmacy.
4. Provide organized educational programs to facilitate continuous professional development.
5. Promote basic and applied research that focuses on pre-clinical and clinical development of pharmaceuticals, therapeutic management and prevention of disease.
6. Provide specialized pharmaceutical services locally and nationally.
7. Establish channels of collaboration with other related national and international institutions.
Learning Objectives
Clinical Pharmacy is a broad, dynamic and a rapidly developing field for which a sound foundation of the basic sciences and other disciplines are vital for the acquisition of the depth of knowledge required. In order to meet the College objectives, the curriculum is designed to provide the students with the necessary basic sciences that will enable them cope with the pharmaceutical and clinical sciences.
Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of the course the student will have acquired knowledge and understanding to:
1. Apply the disciplines of chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, behavioral sciences and communication skills as a basis for pharmaceutical and clinical sciences.
2. Apply the principles of Clinical Pharmacy in the practice of Pharmacy.
Skills
By the end of the course the students should acquire the skills necessary to:
1. Practice Clinical Pharmacy in community, hospitals, academic, managed care and industrial pharmaceutical settings.
2. Provide therapeutic and drug information to medical personnel
3. Communicate with patients about drug treatment.
4. Work in pharmaceutical sales and marketing.
Attitudes and Ethics
By the end of the course the students will have developed their attitude to:
1. Practice Clinical Pharmacy with high ethical standards recognizing that patient interest is paramount at all times.
2. Demonstrate interest in continuous professional development which is based on exploration of knowledge that will be retained throughout professional life to maintain a high level of professional competence and knowledge.
3. Implement the concept of quality management in Clinical Pharmacy and develop the habit of self audit, and participate in the different processes.
4. Recognize his/her professional limitations, and seek help, willingly, when necessary.
5. Respect authority and follow directives.
6. Appreciate his/her role as a member of a health team.
7. Show mutual respect and cooperation with his/her seniors, subordinates, other health professionals, the patients and their relatives.
AIMS
1. Acquire in-depth knowledge of Clinical Pharmacy.
2. Acquire knowledge and understanding of Pharmaceutical sciences in the context of the needs of society in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
3. Demonstrate attitudes and ethics for the achievement of high standards of Pharmaceutical services both in relation to service to the community and to his or her personal development.
4. Acquire and become proficient in basic and advanced Pharmaceutical skills
