The Department of Surgery is one of the largest major departments of the Faculty of Medicine. It deals with the knowledge of diseases, injuries, burns, and surgical interventions. In addition to general surgery, the department includes specialized departments such as orthopedic, ENT, ophthalmology, urology, plastic, pediatric and vascular surgeries as well as anesthesia, emergency medicine and diagnostic radiology specialties.

The department is concerned with the training of students on how to deal with the patients (or injured patients), starting from how to diagnosis on clinical and surgical bases as well as how to choose the appropriate laboratory and imaging tests. The department also concerned with training of the students on how to prepare the patients for operations, health care after surgery and psychosocial support of the patients on professional assets. The department interacts with basic medical knowledge and other specialties

The Department provides continuous services through multiple specialized outpatient clinics through which many cases receive treatment and some other surgical cases are referred.

The Department of surgery consists of highly professional, expert, dynamic and growing faculty concerned with providing the best quality of patient care, research, and educational activity aiming to improve the health of community. 

The department of surgery actively participate in teaching and training the students of the Faculty of Medicine within the curriculum developed through well-equipped skill and simulation laboratories and clinical teaching in the clinical training center (CTC) as well as bedside training in the hospitals.

The surgery department directly supervising graduate programs in the surgery department and shares in various administrative and scientific committees at the Faculty of Medicine and King Faisal University.

The surgery department distinguished scientific research in specialized fields and publication in high impact factor medical journals. Actively sharing in extra-curricular activities of sports, cultural and social for students of the Faculty of Medicine.
