Introduction

The Master's program in Information Systems aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to analyze, design, and develop information systems that support organizational processes and help achieve institutional goals. The program combines technical aspects such as programming, databases, and information security with managerial aspects such as project management and business analysis. This program prepares graduates to provide innovative technological solutions to enhance operational efficiency and decision-making in various organizations.

Program Mission

To establish a world-class and innovative Information System (IS) program to prepare IS graduates for advanced careers in IT industry, help IT industry working professionals advance their careers through graduate continuing education, conduct high-quality education and innovative research to advance IS discipline and prepare graduates to serve the community in comprehending, transferring, adapting, and integrating latest technologies into their everyday life.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon graduation, students will have:

  • Describe and interpret information systems theories and practices.
  • Skills:

  • Analyze scholarly work and apply appropriate research methodologies to conduct effective research.
  • Apply correct techniques and tools for IS development and management by engaging themselves in continuous professional development.
  • Use effective techniques in accomplishing goals and objectives of independent and collaborative efforts.
  • Analyze, design, develop, and evaluate innovative IS solutions that meet organizational needs.
  • Communicate scientific knowledge to a wide range of audiences through effective presentations and writings.
  • Develop or integrate methods and analytical approaches to research that contributes to extending knowledge in the discipline of information systems.

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of professional, ethical, legal, security, and social issues and practices related to Information Systems.

Admission Requirements

The eligibility criteria for candidates applying for admission to the Master program in Computer Information Systems:

  • Fulfil the conditions stated in the graduate studies rules for Saudi Universities.
  • Have a bachelor degree in Information Systems/Information Technology or related disciplines Domain from a recognized university by the Ministry of Education or a field not related to IS/IT, in which case a candidate will have to pass some pre-requisite courses before starting Master degree.
  • Have a minimum CGPA of 3.75/5.00 or equivalent in the bachelor degree. A minimum CGPA of 3.5/5.00 and less than 3.75/5.00 might be accepted based on the university regulations.
  • Demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following:
    • A Band 5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or equivalent.
    • Earning a bachelor degree with English language as medium of instruction. Provide two letters of recommendation.
  • Provide a certificate of good character (behavior).
  • Provide a letter of approval from the employer if the candidate is currently employed.
  • Pass entry test or interview conducted by the department or the college.
  • Meet any other criteria recommended by the department or the college.

Graduation Requirements

Students enrolled in the Computer Information Systems program are allowed to choose one of the following tracks:

  • Research-based Track
  • Courses-based Track

To obtain the Master's degree in the program, students must complete 4 semesters in one of the tracks as follows:

  • 36 credit hours for the Research-based Track
  • 42 credit hours for the Courses-based Track
