Why Academic Advising?

Academic Advising provides students the support and guidance to help them achieve academic and professional aspirations.

Some of the benefits Academic Advising offers to students are:

  • Understanding the academic rules and regulations including .
  • Selecting academic major.
  • understanding the study plan and graduation requirements.
  • Following-up the student's academic progress and providing advice.
  • Providing the required Assistant in early registration and following up on the various registration stages
  • Providing appropriate guidance when the student gets academic warnings.
  • Providing help in preparation for a future career by suggesting extra courses and workshops.

What to do when visiting the academic advisor?

  • Know the office hours of the academic advisor.
  • Make an appointment with the academic advisor.
  • Write all questions and bring them to the academic interview.
  • Carefully review your academic record to fully understand your situation and prepare clear questions and requests.
  • Ensure your information is accurate and up-to-date to support your requests.
  • Prepare the academic file for each course, as well as a list of questions.
  • Set out a date for graduation and consult the academic advisor about it.
  • Work with the academic advisor to develop a study program to study in the following two semesters.
  • Do not hesitate to ask the academic advisor any questions regarding your academic case.
  • Follow the academic advisor's recommendations.
  • Be aware of the semester calendar, especially exam dates.
  • Inform the academic advisor when adding or withdrawing any course that may affect graduation.
  • Creates an academic guidance file in which a copy of all documents is placed so that the advisor can quickly find answers to questions.
  • Keep in touch electronically (e-mail) with any additional questions or inquiries to the academic advisor.

Specialized Advising

The College of Computer Science and Information Technology, in collaboration with the Guidance and Skills Development Unit at the Deanship of Student Affairs, offers specialized advising services for various groups of students. These services include advising for students with disabilities and for gifted students, as well as psychological advising for those experiencing psychological or social issues.

Please include the student’s information (name, university ID number, major, academic level, GPA) along with a description of the requested service (psychological advising, advising for students with disabilities, or advising for gifted students). All data will be handled confidentially.

Attending lectures regularly helps you stay on track, engage with your instructors, and make the most of your learning journey. You are required to attend lectures according to the approved schedules and not to be absent without an officially accepted excuse from the college. Additionally, you are responsible for monitoring your attendance percentage, as exceeding the allowed absence limit may result in being denied the course.

General Guidelines for Excuses

  • Medical excuses that are not approved by Ministry of Health platforms will not be considered.
  • Excuses for students with an absence percentage exceeding 25% will only be reviewed if the date of the excuse falls after the 25% threshold. The exceptions are the excuses mentioned below, which will be reviewed immediately upon submission in the system.
  • Excuses related to childbirth for female students (the leave duration is 7 days starting from the date of delivery). If medical reports indicate that the student requires a longer period, it will be submitted in the system for review.
  • Excuses related to marriage (the leave duration is 3 days starting from the date of marriage).
  • Excuses related to the death of first-degree relatives (the leave duration is 3 days from the date of death).
