DIVISION OF ANATOMY AND HISTOLOGY
Division of Anatomy and Histology is the largest of the Divisions among Department of Biomedical Sciences. The division aims in achieving the educational goals and objectives of the courses to the maximum. The courses designed not only to give the basic knowledge but also to impart their clinical and functional correlation to students.
The Division caters for the following courses being taught in College of Medicine Al-Ahsa:
-
-
-
-
-
Anatomy and Histology for Clinical Pharmacy.
-
Integral Health Science Module (Participation)
The Division comprises of excellent Lab facilities, experienced faculty and technical staff to meet the objective of the courses.
Lab facilities include a large Anatomy dissection Hall, with mortuary. The teaching and learning resources have human cadavers, human dissected specimens, Plastic models, and human plastinated specimen. Further learning resources include anatomy C.D's and movies. There are also audiovisual teaching facilities within the Dissection Hall.
We are planning to enhance our audiovisual anatomy resource centre.
Neuroscience Lab is a separate facility containing Stereo microscope, Multi-head teaching microscope with CCTV, human brain dissected specimen, plastinated brain slices and plastic models. We are developing this lab into future neurobiology research lab.
Histology lab. is fully equipped with instruments for tissue processing.
It has enough student microscopes. For large group teaching there is computerized coolscope, and for small group teaching two multi-head microscopes.
DIVISION OF BIOCHEMISTRY
The Division of Medical Biochemistry,
College of Medicine at Al-Ahsa was established in 2002 and teaching was started in 2003 at Veterinary College of Medicine,
King Faisal University, Qatar Road. The Department was shifted to its present premises after the commissioning of new building of the
College of Medicine in the main campus of the University in January 2007. It is headed by the full time professor. The attached laboratory is housed in a spacious accommodation, is equipped with necessary instruments and appropriate facilities are available for conducting practical work by the students.
The Biochemistry course is covered in two semesters per year and each semester extends to 15 weeks duration. The curriculum introduces the applications of biochemical knowledge to understand the basic and applied biochemical processes in human beings. Performance of the students is evaluated by continuous assessment (i.e. quizzes, lab. practicals, oral viva and mid-year exam) and final written examination at the end of the year. The departmental faculty is also actively involved in research activities in collaboration with different sponsors.
Division of Biochemistry conducts the following courses:
I. Medical Biochemistry
II. Medical Genetics
DIVISION OF PATHOLOGY
Introduction
Pathology is a science which deals with the study of disease in terms of etiology, pathogenesis, morphology (including molecular and genetic basis of the disease) and finally its clinical significance
Pathology is divided into two sections:
General Pathology
Systemic Pathology..
DIVISION OF MICROBIOLOGY
Division of Microbiology conducts the following courses:
