The Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Resources in King Faisal University in Hofuf, is the only hospital of its kind in the Kingdom and Gulf region; as it was established in order to provide clinical material for practical training for students in this Faculty, which is also unique in the King Faisal University in the Kingdom and the Gulf region, as well as its primary role in education.
The hospital is an important place for scientific research in a number of areas relating to animal health. it also plays a prominent role in serving the community through what it provides yearly for the treatment of thousands of cases of sick animals from various types, , as well as providing advice and guidance for animal breeders in the region.
The hospital has a number of laboratories in addition to a central laboratory for diagnosis which has been established to increase diagnostic efficiency in the hospital, support scientific research and provide technical advice and accurate diagnosis of animal diseases in the Kingdom and Gulf region, in addition to the technical cooperation between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in King Faisal University and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Cornell University in the United States.
The hospital was established on an area of (7500) square meters within the Training, Agricultural and Veterinary Research Station of the University to play its role in the effective teaching, research and community service, in addition to treating animals that are suffering from various cases of poisoning, diagnosis and prescribing treatment for diseases of poultry in 100 farms in Al Ahsaa, as well as the reception and treatment of a number of rare birds and falcons.
The hospital also contains a laboratory for poisons which is -equipped to detect the different toxins. With God's help, Diagnosis of certain diseases in a number of animal types could be made for the first time in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as performing some rare operations for some cases such as uterine torsion in camels and repairing the jaw fractures in Camels also, in addition to, the diagnosis of congenital malformations. The teaching staff members and their assistants register these observations and rare cases for presentating them at symposia and scientific journals nationally and internationally.
