About the center
Origin and establishment
The University Center for Communication and Media was established in the academic year 1398/1399 AH under the name: (Public Relations Department), and its tasks were linked to the Office of the University President. Its name was then changed to: (Public Relations and Media Department) and that was on 1/5/1418 AH, to be linked to After that, he was appointed to the Vice-Deanship for Studies, Development and Community Service by a decision of the University President, and its name was changed on 2/10/1431 AH to: (Department of Media and Public Relations), and a supervisor was assigned to it.
In accordance with the noble Royal Decree, educational satellite broadcasting controls were approved in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the year (1430-2009 AD) to regulate and control educational satellite broadcasting in academic institutions in accordance with the provisions stipulated in these controls.
The university administration also signed a contract with one of the specialized companies to supply, install and equip the audio and video production unit’s studio on 10/17/1431 AH.
Based on the approval of the Minister of Higher Education in accordance with the letter of His Excellency the Secretary General of the Higher Education Council, King Faisal University’s participation in satellite broadcasting within the Ministry’s higher education channel network package was approved on 4/9/1432 AH, the establishment of an independent administration for satellite broadcasting, and the provision of the required staff. Accordingly, it was approved to establish a department under the name (Satellite Broadcasting Department) on 4/25/1432 AH. A package of measures was then implemented, which was a turning point for the media center:
-The university administration signed a contract with one of the specialized companies to operate satellite broadcasting studios for a period of three years, starting from 9/8/1434 AH.
-An independent unit was created in the female students’ departments under the name (Media and Public Relations Unit), linked to the supervisor of the Media and Public Relations Department.
-Appointing a head of the unit and linking her to His Excellency the Vice President for Female Student Affairs.
-An assistant to the supervisor and a female supervisor were assigned to the unit, who are administratively linked to His Excellency the Vice President for Female Student Affairs, and technically to the center’s supervisor.
-The university administration signed a contract to supply an external transport vehicle with one of the specialized companies on 8/3/1436 AH.
-The University Center for Communication and Media, which is a professional administrative center, was established by decision of the University President No. 38/2/710 on 11/19/1436 AH. The decision required the inclusion of the Department of Media and Public Relations and the Department of Satellite Broadcasting under the management of the Center, and that the Center be directly linked to the University President.
-The (Communication and Media Unit) was established within the Department of the Printing Press to meet the needs of the University Center for Communication and Media at the university by decision of the University President No. 38/2/714, dated 11/24/1436 AH.
-On 6/18/1437 AH, the university administration signed a contract to operate satellite broadcasting studios for a period of five years with one of the specialized companies.
