Details of compulsory courses.

  • Department is involved in teaching of under graduate students through horizontal and vertical integration. Department is mainly teaching 3rd year, 4rth with some contribution in early year as part of vertical integration.

 

 3rd year. Block 3.3(life cycle 1)

  •  COURSE TITLE: LIFE CYCLE 1
  • CODE: - 1000-303
  • CREDIT HOURS: 6
  • This block consists of nine weeks (8 weeks of learning and 9th week for assessment). In this block students acquire necessary knowledge skills and attitude in Obstetrics/ Gynecology, Reproductive Medicine, neonatology, related ethics and legal issues and oncology. Course content is divided into eight themes, these themes are taught over eight weeks.

  • •             This block consists of 6 working weeks and it is repeated four times through the academic year with new group of students each time.

  • •             The block is mainly concerned with teaching the principles and application of a model medical consultation Gynecology/ Obstetrics and Pediatric. Our department teach gynecological part of the block.

  • •             During the block consultation is first practiced during consultation sessions (similar to small PBL groups in the previous blocks) as role play among the students themselves and training for clinical examination techniques  on manikins, then on a simulated patient, and finally with an encounter with a real patient at a health facility (= bedside teaching). 

  • •             By completion of the course the student should be able to do consultation skills (history taking, physical examination, communication, clinical reasoning, and treatment advice, related ethics and legal issues) and attitudes that will enable them to: 
  • ·         Integrate basic science knowledge (anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, microbiology), theoretical clinical knowledge, clinical and communication skills during clinical practice.
  • ·         undergoes a complete (professional) medical consultation in the following specialties which directly deal maternal and child health and proper sexual and reproductive functioning:
  • 1.            Gynecology & Obstetrics
  • 2.            Neonatology & Pediatrics


           Pre-requisites for this course (if any):

  • To pass all previous blocks and lines – revision of knowledge related gynecology, obstetrics and pediatrics from blocks 3.2. 3.3 and 3.4.

  • Problem based learning coarse (student centered), 92% is practical (consultation and clinical examination), 8% interactive tutorial and lectures).
