About the Department

English was first taught in this University since its establishment in 1975 at English Language Center. The target group was the College of Medicine students at Dammam campus and then the College of Agriculture students in Al Ahasa Campus since 1976. In 1981, the Department of Foreign Languages was established in the College of Education. English was the only language taught to male and female students. The Department conferred the bachelor degree. It was felt at the time that there was a need in the region to open a graduate program in English. Therefore, the master's degree program in Teaching English as a Foreign Language was introduced in 1993. The major shift in the history of the department was in 2009 when it joined the newly established College of Arts under the name of Department of English Language.
