Overview of the center:

King Faisal University pays special attention to scientific research, as it is the second pillar of the university after teaching, and it is one of the tributaries of creativity that characterizes the university. From here came the idea of ​​establishing the Center for Water Studies to be one of the research centers specialized in conducting research related to water resources in terms of sources, quantity, type and their relationship with other resources such as soil and agriculture, as well as studying environmental problems while providing training and rehabilitation programs in these fields.
The center was established on the date: 09/07/1402 AH, based on the approval of His Excellency the University President, upon the recommendation of the Scientific Council at its eleventh session, Resolution No.: M/1664, held on 05/22/1402 AH, so that the center’s main mission would be to provide study, research, advisory and training programs in All fields of water sciences and related sciences, thus serving the Kingdom and neighboring countries.

Objectives:

1-Conducting distinguished studies, research and scientific publishing in the field of water and environment.
2-Transferring, localizing and developing technologies in the field of water and environmental sustainability.
3-Adopting smart water management systems that work compatible with the Internet of things (IoT) and using them to measure and monitor water resources and increase the rationalization of water use.
4-Developing methods for treating wastewater and industrial water that are environmentally friendly.
5-Improve water quality.
6-Working to enhance environmental sustainability through environmental research and studies on air, water and soil pollution.
7-Contributing to the innovation of new industries for water technologies and environmental sustainability.
8-Providing scientific consulting services in water and environmental research and technologies.

10-Establishing partnerships with national, regional and international research centers and institutes.

Research priorities:

Wastewater treatment and reuse.
Developing hydroponics and greenhouse farming.
Improving the quality of treated wastewater (TWW) targeting the agricultural, aquaculture and aquaponics sectors and supporting the Saudi Green Initiative.
Smart technologies to monitor and rationalize water consumption in the urban, agricultural and industrial sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support the national efforts of the National Center for Water Efficiency and Rationalization.
Environmental studies and research to study pollution with environmentally persistent organic pollutants on elements of the environment and humans, and to contribute with the Environment Agency in the Kingdom to develop a national plan to implement the requirements of the Stockholm Convention on high-risk environmental pollutants.
Identify plant species that are most resistant to desertification and that have a low water consumption pattern.
Urban greening and its effects on reducing environmental risks and water consumption pattern.
Environmental assessment of coastal areas and mangrove forest areas and study of their water quality.
