Date Palm Research Center


 About the Center

The Date Palm Research Center (DPRC), King Faisal University, Al-Ahsa was established in 1403H (1983).  In 1427 H, the University submitted a proposal for the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) to grant the center the status of a center for research Excellence. The MoHE approved this request and issued a decree of promotion to a "Research Center of Excellence" on 20/2/1428 H where the center has officially become one of the Saudi centers of research excellence under the auspices of the MoHE. The center held several meetings and workshops with the university officials, staff members, researchers, national and international experts, and date palm farmers to identify the guidelines for the center future activities that comply with the Kingdom developmental plans. A board of directors comprised of several officials, date palm public and private sectors professionals has been formed. In addition, an advisory board representing national and international experts in the field of date palm was formed.

The DPRC is focusing its efforts to achieve several objectives including rationalization of irrigation water in date palm cultivation, using integrated pest management of red palm weevil, improving productivity and quality of non-polluted date, developing of new technology and value-added date products, and finding new markets for different date palm products.
