Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, and prayers and peace be upon the most honorable of prophets and messengers, our master Muhammad, may God bless him and his family and companions,

I am pleased to welcome you to the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the College of Engineering at King Faisal University, as the department represents one of the most developed fields of engineering in our beloved country, which is experiencing an unprecedented transformational renaissance in several sectors, one of these transformations include engineering and health sectors. As Biomedical Engineering represents an important element in the technical development of the health sector with its various engineering applications, it contributes to deal with medical and vital cases accurately and precisely. Therefore, the Biomedical Engineering Department sought to qualify biomedical engineering cadres to keep pace with the rising in the labor market.

Many health sectors, including service providers and manufacturers and developers of medical equipment technologies, are seeking distinguished biomedical engineers capable of keeping pace with medical technical development. Due to increasing demand to enroll to the program, we have worked to activate the department's continuous improvement plans to ensure that it keeps pace with the highest standards of academic and research quality.

The department is keen to include distinguished faculty members, provide a stimulating academic and research environment, and practical and scientific projects that contribute to enhancing learning outcomes and qualifying graduates to keep pace with developments in the labor market. Thus, the Biomedical Engineering Department highly has considered acquiring the scientific and professional skills that guarantee their excellence and prepare them for the requirements of professional accreditation, certificates and international professional licenses. The department also seeks to enhance communication and build effective and productive partnerships with various sectors to provide high quality of training to the students lead to professional opportunities. We also express our pride in our department's graduates over the past years as they represent an extension of the human capabilities development that we always look forward seeing them contribute to advancing the development wheel of our country and achieving the aspirations of our leadership.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering is committed to improving healthcare technology outcomes and offering quality community services by:

  • Providing quality education of biomedical engineering through project-based and problem solving teaching and learning.
  • Producing research that leads to better solutions to biomedical engineering-related problems with emphasis on issues of national significance by working closely with industry and research centers.

The graduates of the Biomedical Engineering Department, College of Engineering at King Faisal University are expected to demonstrate:

  • Ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  • Ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  • Ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
  • Ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives

The Department of Biomedical Engineering has formed an external advisory board of national leaders from industry, government, and academia, who have professional expertise in biomedical engineering and related disciplines. They share the mission of the Biomedical Engineering Department and provide leadership to the Department by providing guidance on the educational program, curricula, and departmental objectives. Additionally, board members will provide assistance in identifying career opportunities and promote the Department to the engineering community and profession at large as well as to the public.
