About the Program


 

Mission:

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering strives for providing quality services through close partnership with the community by demonstrating commitment to: 

v Quality education that prepares graduates through project-based learning with broad  basic engineering knowledge to be professionals and to pursue graduate studies and research. 

v Quality research that leads to better solutions to engineering-related problems with emphasis on issues of national significance by working closely with industry and research centers.
 

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Within a few years of graduation, Civil Engineering graduates are expected to attain the following program educational objectives:​

Become technically competent engineers for a successful and productive career in the civil                     engineering profession, OR

v  Pursue graduate studies and research in civil engineering, AND

v  Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork skills in a diverse environment with                         an integrative perspective to solving civil engineering problems, AND

v  Engage in  life-long learning for the purpose of continuous improvement.


Student Outcomes (SOs):

These are the same outcomes as articulated by ABET and are listed below:

(a) An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering.

(b) An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data. 
 
(c) An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic
 constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety,
 manufacturability, and sustainability.

(d)
An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.

(e)
An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems. 

(f)
An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.

(g)
An ability to communicate effectively.

(h)
The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a 
global, economic, environmental, and societal context. 

(i)
A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning.

(j)
A knowledge of contemporary issues.

(k)
An ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for 
engineering practice.
