NEUROLOGY:
The specialist in this branch deals with the diseases of nervous system such as Stroke, Epilepsy, Backache,
Dementias, Headache & Migraine, Meningitis and viral infections of nervous system, Nerve and muscle diseases and various types of walking disabilities. The Neurologist is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.
The various procedures such as Nerve conduction & EMG studies to assess the damage to nerves and muscles and Electroencephalography (EEG) to diagnose Epilepsy are commonly performed in this specialty.
PSYCHIATRY:
The Psychiatrist deals in the diagnosis and treatment of various types of mental disorders such as Anxiety, Depression, Schizophrenia and mood disorders.
The curriculum of Psychiatry Include the following topics: introduction to Psychiatry, Symptomatology of psychiatric illness, Clinical interview and research methods in psychiatry, Organic psychiatry that include Cognitive disorders and Substance abuse, anxiety disorders , dissociative disorders , somatoform disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, bipolar disorders, depressive disorders ,schizophrenia, personality ,sexual and gender identity disorders , eating disorders, liaison psychiatry , child psychiatry that include: mental retardation , attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, conduct disorders , elimination disorders ,social phobia in childhood, feeding and eating disorders.
The subject of Psychiatry is taught in the 5th year class. It is 6 weeks clinical rotation. During this clinical rotation, students are expected to develop the skills of history taking in independent manner and its presentation in the formative manner, complete psychiatric examination of in-patients and out-patients with common psychiatric disorders. During this rotation, the students visit the ward and examine the patients under the guidance of the tutors.
CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY:
The curriculum of clinical psychology include the following topics: Introduction to Psychology, models of health and illness, stress in biopsychosocial model, psychoneuroimmunology, psychological functions that include: observation, perception, attention, memory, thinking, executive functions, intelligence, learning, feeling and emotions , motivation, personality, psychophysiology of sleep and dreams, child psychology that include growth and development, neuroplasticity, development of motor abilities, development of speech and sensory and perceptual development.
