Overview
The Department of Islamic Fundamentals was established in the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies in 1401 AH (1981 AD) by Royal Decree No. (6366). Initially, it was exclusive to male students, who could earn a Bachelor's degree in Islamic Fundamentals. Later, the department expanded to include female students through a distance education system. In the academic year 1443 AH / 1444 AH (2021 AD / 2022 AD), regular classes for female students were officially launched.
In 1442 AH (2021 AD), the University Affairs Council made Decision No. (10/3/1442) approving the incorporation of the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies into King Faisal University.
Vision
To lead in the education of Islamic sciences, including the Quran and its sciences, the Sunnah and its sciences, theology, and contemporary sects. The department aims for excellence in the field of Islamic scientific research and community service, while preparing specialists in the following areas:

· Theology and Contemporary Sects
· Related Subfields
Mission
Graduating qualified individuals—both male and female students—who are distinguished in Islamic sciences in general, and specifically in the Quran and its sciences, the Sunnah and its sciences, theology, and contemporary sects. They will possess research, educational, and professional skills in the fields of fatwa (Islamic jurisprudence), teaching, Islamic consultations, legal advocacy, investigation, law, dawa (Islamic outreach), guidance, and enjoining good and forbidding evil.
Goals
· Training Competent Students: To prepare knowledgeable students in Islamic law in general, and specifically in the Quran and its sciences, the Sunnah and its sciences, theology, and contemporary sects.
· Training Legal Researchers: To qualify researchers in Islamic jurisprudence.
· Meeting Community Needs: To fulfill the community's needs in general and higher education.
· Providing Distinguished Cadres: To supply the community with distinguished professionals in fatwa (Islamic jurisprudence), teaching, Islamic consultations, legal advocacy, investigation, law, dawa (Islamic outreach), guidance, and enjoining good and forbidding evil.
· Community Service: To serve the community by providing religious awareness and supplying it with knowledgeable students who are well-acquainted with their realities.
