Overview
The Department of Islamic Studies is one of the academic departments within the College of Arts previously and currently within the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at King Faisal University. This change occurred following the decision by the esteemed President of the University to transfer the department to the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies after its incorporation into the university in the year 1444 AH.
The department began its activities by teaching Islamic culture courses (a university requirement) in 1395 AH and became an independent department in 1401 AH.
The department offers three academic degrees:
· Bachelor's Degree
· Master's Degree: The department has been offering master's programs in various specializations since 1432 AH, including:
· Quran and Sunnah
· Jurisprudence and its Principles
· Theology and Contemporary Doctrines
The master's degree is awarded based on coursework and a thesis.
· Doctorate Degree: The department also offers doctoral programs in two specializations since 1439 AH:
· Doctorate in Tafsir and Quranic Sciences
Vision
To achieve leadership at the local, regional, and international levels in scientifically preparing students in Islamic studies and equipping them with research, thinking, and deduction skills, based on modern scientific methodology and the principles of authentic Islamic law. This aims to build a moderate vision derived from the Holy Quran, the Sunnah, and the methodology of the righteous predecessors, while reinforcing the culture and authenticity of the Islamic community and enhancing intercultural dialogue.
Mission
To prepare distinguished scientific and legal competencies characterized by contribution and creativity in the field of Islamic studies and scientific research supported by graduate programs, and to contribute to community service.
Goals
· Building Distinct Competencies: Develop outstanding competencies in Islamic studies that are capable of contributing in line with local and international developments and changes.
· Connecting Society to Its Heritage: Link the community with its authentic scientific heritage and Islamic culture, while introducing it to other cultures to support positive communication.
· Enhancing Scientific Research: Elevate scientific research in Islamic studies and utilize it to effectively address contemporary issues.
· Preparing Researchers: Train researchers in Islamic studies who possess critical thinking skills and a solid foundation in scientific research methods.
