SAMPE BEGINNINGS, The Society of Aircraft Material and Process Engineers was formed in 1944 by nine Southern California aerospace professionals concerned with the scarcity of materials and the resulting need to economize. They believed that a network of material and process engineers would provide the best means for information exchange and prevent duplication of effort among companies working toward a common goal. They arranged a meeting with the most prominent Southern California material and process engineers to discuss the formation of such a society

The International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS) is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation, established in 1919. Its objectives are: * to promote the study of biological sciences; * to initiate, facilitate and coordinate research and other scientific activities necessitating *    international, interdisciplinary cooperation;*  to ensure the discussion and dissemination of the results of cooperative research, particularly in connection with IUBS scientific programmes;*    to support the organisation of international conferences and assist in the publication of their reports.

The International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) was established in 1922 in Brussels with 13 Member countries and the first General Assembly was held in 1923 in Paris. The aims of the Union are: to stimulate and promote international cooperation in physics; to sponsor suitable international meetings and to assist organizing committees; to foster the preparation and the publication of abstracts of papers and tables of physical constants; to promote international agreements on other use of symbols, units, nomenclature and standards; to foster free circulation of scientists; to encourage research and education.
