Introduction
This section is interested in plants activities. The main tasks are:
• Facilitating the conductance of agricultural plant research for faculty members and students of the university in all department units.
• Training of university and governorate's agricultural institutes students on various cultural practices.
• Securing the agricultural materials needed by the colleges for the purposes of teaching, student training, and scientific research.
• Overseeing the operation of greenhouses and nurseries.
• Overseeing and maintain beehives.
• Conducting chemical analysis of water, soil, plants, and food to serve the University research and training activities.
• Securing the Interior Ornamental plants for University employees' offices and the station.
• Providing different plant cultural services to the region's citizens and governmental departments.
Department Units:
Orchards Unit:
It contains several fields for research and experiment. These fields are used to grow several palm varieties and different citrus and fruit trees.
Pivot irrigation field:
A pivot irrigation system was installed to grow fodder and supply the livestock department and camels research center with green fodder. Its area is 18 hectares that is divided to grow Rhodes grass (6 hectares), alfalfa (6 hectares), and barley (6 hectares). A crop rotation system is used to operate this unit.
The unit contains a mowing and a feed preparing machine. These machines are used for feed handling and student training.
Greenhouses Unit:
The unite contain two-hall greenhouse provided with hydroponic system (hydroponics) with an area of 5000 m2was established. One hall is devoted to close systems while the second is for open systems. It includes the most advanced systems in hydroponics, cooling fog, automatic control of irrigation and fertilization, and aqueous solution concentration monitoring. These technologies within the methods saves nearly 25% of water and fertilizers used by conventional systems.
The unite contains four greenhouses to grow vegetables, ornamental plants, and flowers in addition to other greenhouses assigned to scientific research activities with a total area of 10000m2.
Nurseries Unit:
The unit include several nurseries for the production of ornamental flowers and fruit plants propagation where many winter flowers and shrubs are produced.
An automated flower seeding system using air vacuum to plant seeds in special trays by a Netherland made Javo roto-fill machine which increased the production capacity of the unit. The machine can handle 10000 seeds per hour.
The plants types produced by the unit is as follows.
Flowers:
1. Beitunia.
2. Anatraeetm.
3. Amaranth.
4. Jaszaka.
5. Chrysanthemum.
6. Qlardia.
Shrubs:
1. Casuarina.
2. Ethel.
3. Washingtonia palms.
4. Hellish.
5. Jasmine Indian.
6. Barsobs.
7. Mattress glass.
8. Neem.
9. Hibiscus.
10. Tekuma.
11. Camphor.
12. Didonaa.
Apiary Unit:
The apiary unit comprises several bees' colonies and a student-training laboratory in addition to various equipment for honey and royal jelly production. The apiary is surrounded by different trees and various summer and winter plants that provide nectar and pollen for the bees.
Station's gardens unit:
It supervised, design, and maintain the station gardens in addition to colleges' and research centers' gardens.
Cultivations:
There are thirteen drip irrigation network of forty meters long and one hundred and twenty meters planted all summer and winter cultivation and perennials which will contribute to the availability of pollen and nectar for bee colonies.
The most important daily work which is carried out by agricultural department units:
1. Grader to be planted.
2. Digging for planting seedlings, citrus processing.
3. Sparing palms.
4. Clean grass.
5. Fertilize palm and citrus Municipal manure.
6. Seder trim trees and remove them cancers.
7. Remove waste in the field.
8. Follow-up irrigation process.
9. Propagation of indoor plants that constantly and overall length.
10. Doing the process of individualization of ornamental plants inside the greenhouse.
11. Carry out fertilization of plants "liquid fertilizer or granular fertilizer."
12. Follow-up irrigation indoor plants inside the unit.
13. Send indoor plants to the different departments of the university.
14. Creation of modern irrigation network of the plate.
15. Continuing for the rest of network maintenance.
